How to manage two or more sections in one course...
by Admin User - Monday, 29 April 2013, 1:22 PM

Good day!

If you want to manage two or more sections into 1 course, here is how it is done.

STEP 1) Create Groups and Groupings

a) Click Groups, under Users in Course Settings once you have logged into your course.

b) Create Group A and Group B, representing your two sections. However, keep in mind that this is not yet your final section.

c) Use the Group interface now to assign each student to their group.

d) Once done, go the Groupings tab.

e) Here, create 2 Groupings: Section 1 and Section 2.

f) Assign Group A to Section 1 and assign Group B to Section 2. This is your final section grouping.

STEP 2) Groupings can now be set to show different activities for each section.

a) To enforce it Course-wide, go to Edit Settings under Course Administration.

b) Scroll down to Groups and choose Separate Groups for Group Mode, Force Group Mode to Yes and leave Default Grouping to none.

c) Now, every time you create an activity or resource, go to its Common Module Settings. All activities and resources like Quiz, Assignment, File, URL and Labels have this group setting.

d) Under Available for Group members only, tick the check box.

e) Under Grouping, choose the section where the resource will only appear, like Section 1. (It wont show up to members of section 2.)

f) If you don't tick the box for Available for Group members only, the resource/activity will be available to both sections!
